It’s a cold and windy 52 degrees today! Of course it was raining when I left for school, so my hair had to be all frizzed out the whole day. It hasn’t really rained since this morning; though it looks like it could start again any minute.
Classes were rather repetitive (but not boring) since I had the three fifth levels 1st, 4th and 5th hours. We finished the Thanksgiving PowerPoint we started last week, sang the “Upon the Mayflower” song and then looked at the Scholastic website I found. It worked better with today’s classes because Rocío and Marina were able to help translate, ask questions and make sure they understood. We took “the voyage of the Mayflower” which stopped at certain points between England and the US and it discussed what they encountered or what happened there. We then “toured the Mayflower” which showed where people lived, how they sailed the ship, steerage and things like that. It worked out well today!
Second hour was 1B. Marina said they just started a new unit yesterday, about pets, so they’re still learning the vocab—dog, cat, rabbit, rat, parrot, frog, etc. I went over pronunciation and that was followed by a worksheet where they were given an animal to trace and it would say things like “Is it a frog/dog/goldfish…They then circled yes or no and then color the picture.
2B was third. I read them a story about a little girl named Monica who was having a birthday party. She called all of her friends to ask what they were planning to wear and in the end the all showed up in costumes, like a vampire, witch and pirate. Yes, they are in the middle of a clothing unit! I followed the story with comprehension questions…they know a lot. I never had to repeat them and they understood them and answered them correctly! That’s two things that fourth level can’t do…
I have the advanced kids at four this afternoon. That class is easier than the eight/nine-year-olds; they know more and it’s much more laid back. I definitely enjoy that class more than the other.
Now I have to go do some laundry…because I’m out of clean socks! Peace Out!!!
Xoxo,
Court
